About

Hi and welcome! I am so glad you’re here!

Chantel-about-avikam-yoga

I’m Chantel, a registered nurse, mother, yogapreneur, and nature lover.

I have had an on and off relationship with yoga for the better part of the last 20 years. My passion and commitment to my practice really amped back up about 6 years ago, after the birth of my second son.

Life was busy, like really busy, as it is for all of us. When I was busy running from work to school to activities with my first born, I seemed content. Or so I thought. It wasn’t until I was home with my second son, in the space of slowing down, that I grabbed onto my yoga practice and didn’t let it go.

In my journey of motherhood, I felt like I was losing myself. I mean, how could I have time for me when little humans depended on me?

For a while, I lost sense of the fact that I still mattered and that I depended on me. My mat was my small space offering a large realization - every single one of us matter, every single one of us need to feel loved and every single one of us is stronger than we imagine. My mat brought me back to this and I wanted to share this realization with everyone around me.

I fell in love with SUP yoga because it has a beautiful combination of all my great loves; yoga, the outdoors, surfing and being on the water. So in the spring of 2016 I traveled to Marina del Rey, California where I completed the YOGAqua SUP Yoga Instructor Certification, WPA (World Paddle Association) Level 1 Certificate and Acro SUP Yoga Instruction.

In an attempt to expand on my love for anatomy and movement, I signed up and completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training with Yoga Medicine. I was so stoked to continue learning about yoga, the human body and movement that immediately after completing my 200 hour teacher training I jumped right into my next training. I am now 50 hours deep into my 500 hour certification.

I will always be a student of the practice and am deeply grateful for the loving wisdom my teachers have shared with me. In my classes, I love to combine creative sequencing, a spirit of playfulness and a dose of inspiration to help you deepen your practice.

I seek to help others thrive in life by nurturing body, mind and soul with yoga. My hope is that you step off the mat feeling refreshed, nourished and balanced.

I share my passion for adventures, motherhood, and movement on instagram as @avikam.yoga. Get in touch if you have any questions or simply want to say hi. I would love to connect with you!

Chantel is truly an inspiration to me and to my Yoga practice. Her dedication to sharing her knowledge and practice is strong and steady. I’ve taken both land and water classes from her and I always find a sense of calm and connectedness during my interactions with her. Best of all, I leave each class feeling a sense of empowerment and ease. With her gentle and unassuming nature, Chantel always meets me where I am at, and it reminds me that it’s the perfect place to be.

She is a gifted teacher and a blessing in my life!
